Home insulation can cut your heating bill by 20%

Home insulation cuts your heating bill by 20%

The Green Homes Grant Scheme is now closed

If your home isn’t insulated, you are leaking money through your roof and walls.

If your home was built after 1930, you probably have walls with cavities. These were originally just filled with air; now we fill them with insulating material to keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Solid brick walls need exterior insulation – the process is different but the result is the same – warmer homes that save you money.

The standard price for a cavity is much less than exterior insulation, but your free Green Home Grant vouchers can be used for both!

Broadly, there are two types of external brick walls– cavity and solid. You can tell from the brick pattern. Cavity walls are quick to fill (often half day) and it is not messy.

Solid brick walls and those of Park Homes
need exterior insulation.

Loft Insulation

It’s estimated that over 40% of UK households with traditional lofts could still benefit from having loft insulation installed.

Details about what full or top up grants might be available for loft have not yet been announced but you should check the depth of insulation you already have (recommended depth is 270mm/11”).
