Solar Valley on the Isle of Wight
Michael Fish celebrated with residents who have dubbed their Sandown street “Solar Valley” after free solar pioneers HomeSun installed its sixteenth rooftop system. HomeSun have now installed more systems in Perowne Way than in any other street in the country.
After sampling some garlic beer at the Island’s nearby Garlic Festival, Michael joined HomeSun customers at the home of Perowne Way’s solar pioneers, Oscar and Jacqueline Stretch, to toast the street’s solar success story.
Michael Fish said: “The Isle of Wight has really embraced solar power and now Perowne Way is the jewel in the crown. Congratulations to all the families who have jumped on the opportunity to get free solar panels! “It makes sense that the Island should be such a solar power hotspot. It gets 29% more sunshine than the UK average – that’s the equivalent of 100 extra days a year. With so much sun, an Island household could easily save 1/3 off their electricity bills with free solar.
Oscar Stretch, the first person in PerowneWay to get HomeSun solar panels, said: “We’ve now got so many solar panels on the street we’ve taken to calling it ‘Solar Valley’! If your roof is suitable for solar panels it just makes sense to have them, especially now you can get them for free. You don’t get many opportunities like this, and I hope lots more people take it up. Happily, on the evidence of Perowne Way, it looks like lots are.”
