Eric and Muriel from Fareham

TV weatherman John Kettley joined Eric and Muriel’s installation on the longest day of the year - to announce the UK’s Top Ten Solar Hot Spots, and demonstrate the many benefits of solar power – not only in terms of cost-saving but also for the environment. With energy prices set to rise Eric was looking at options to help control costs.

Eric and Muriel are another addition the the ever-growing number of homeowners who are adopting solar power in the country. Fareham, especially been declared Britain’s most solar-powered town, according to HomeSun.

Fareham tops a league table of solar hot spots compiled by the firm that showcases the towns and cities in the UK with the highest concentration of homes powered by solar. “If all the homes in Fareham that could have solar installed panels, that would produce a massive 6,500,000 KWH per year, the equivalent to boiling 3,250,000 kettles for an hour, and potentially saving a third on each home’s electricity use,” Kettley added.

Throughout the day Eric and Muriel witnessed a seamless install performed by a team of three from Carillion. "I didn't even hear too much from the team. It was quite nice they just got on with it since I was cooking for a local charity event which made me quite busy already. Even when they didn't complete the job in one day, the team came back 8am the next day to lay the last panel" - said Muriel.

Overall, pleased once their solar panels were up and running the next day Eric said  "It’s great that companies like HomeSun are able to give people the chance to enjoy the benefits of free solar panels on their roofs for free”.
