Government in court over Feed-in Tariff debacle - appeals that it has not broken the law. £100m cost to FIT budget. Industry urges non-discriminatory FIT going forward. The Government today argued in the Appeal Court that it had not acted ‘unlawfully’ in proposing a date for a cut to the FIT mid-way through a consultation and effectively imposing a retrospective tariff.

Consumers are keen to generate their own electricity from solar PV but FIT must be equal across board to ensure free solar systems remain available. Responding to the poor ratings of the big six energy companies in a Which? customer satisfaction survey published today, Daniel Green, CEO of leading solar company, HomeSun, said: “It is clear that the British public wants independence from Big Energy and ever rising bills. Everyone should be able to produce their own free energy with solar and that includes lower-income private homeowners who don’t have the spare £10,000 to buy a system.

Judicial Review finds coalition government’s feed-in tariff proposals unlawful. Today, HomeSun the leading solar company along with Friends of the Earth and Solarcentury, won its case against the coalition Government’s Feed-in Tariff proposals at the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand. Following a Judicial Review, Mr Justice Mitting found it to be illegal to have an ‘effective date’ on the 12th December two weeks before the end of the FIT review consultation period on the 23rd December.

25,000 workers in the rapidly growing domestic renewable energy services sector are at risk of losing their jobs before Christmas due to the coalition government’s poorly thought-through FITs policy. At the same time, the Office of National Statistics has announced new unemployment figures showing an a rise of 129,000 in unemployment*.

20th December set for Judicial Review of coalition government’s proposals to cut the feed in tariff . Today, HomeSun the leading solar company along with Friends of the Earth and Solarcentury has won its application for a Judicial Review of the coalition Government’s proposals to cut the Feed-in Tariff from the 12th December. The date for the hearing is on Tuesday 20th December, which is three days before the FIT consultation ends.

Emerging from a crisis meeting between Greg Barker and leaders in the solar industry earlier today, Daniel Green CEO of HomeSun said: “The government needs to be seen to consult on the Feed in Tariffs, but it is clear from this meeting this is all a foregone conclusion. The drop dead date of 12th December for the subsidy cut is too short notice: in the solar industry it means 25000 people risk losing their jobs before Christmas, companies face bankruptcy and 1000s of homeowners will lose out on the orders they placed for solar PV installations along with deposits.
