Our Environmental Policy

27% of the UK's carbon emissions are from our homes.

That’s down to all the energy we use for heat and power, produced from burning ‘fossil fuels’ like coal. And it’s down to waste because, for example, there’s no insulation in the roof. Government and scientific consensus is that these emissions have to be cut dramatically – a real challenge for most of us.

Through the Greener Home Health Check completed for each home we survey, our customers will be able to see and prioritise ways to save energy (and money!). And each house that installs a HomeSun solar PV system will save around 1tCO2/yr – around 30-40tCO2 during the system’s life.

Whilst that makes our business intrinsically carbon positive there are, of course, carbon emissions associated with our operation:

  • ‘Direct’ : The emissions associated with electricity used in our office, fuel used in the vehicles we drive and from the waste that we dispose of.
  • ‘Indirect’ : Emissions resulting from the installation of our systems – primarily manufacturing of the PV modules and other equipment and transport-related emissions associated with survey, installation and any servicing.

We are committed to measuring and reducing our emissions over time. In 2011 we will publish our emissions from Financial Year 2010/11 together with our reduction plan.
